Ryanair launch new direct flights from Glasgow Airport to Berlin
02 November 2015

Glasgow Airport has welcomed the launch of its latest new route as Ryanair commence direct flights between Glasgow and Berlin.

The inaugural flight departed from Glasgow Airport on 28 October 2015 with flights now operating every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
Ryanair now compete head-to-head with Easyjet on the popular Glasgow to Berlin route and combined, the two airlines offer eleven flights per week direct from Scotland's largest city to Berlin providing passengers with an unrivaled frequency of flights and hassle-fee non-stop access direct to the German capital. The Glasgow to Berlin route is already hugely popular with over 8,000 passengers using the current Easyjet service every month and the new Ryanair route is expected to prove equally as popular, particularly among German tourists visiting Scotland’s largest city and other major tourist draws in Western Scotland including Argyll & Bute and Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park.

Berlin has been enormously affected since the Wall came down, commanding global interest as a destination. In no other European metropolis has so much changed in recent years. Walking through Berlin you will see evidence of different historic periods in a short time, from medieval buildings to the famous sightseeing landmarks like the Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag and East Side Gallery. Today Berlin presents itself as a young, dynamic metropolis open to the world right in the heart of Europe, setting new trends in architecture, art and fashion. Lisa Buckley, Sales and Marketing Executive, Ryanair, said: "We are pleased to celebrate our first flight to Berlin, which will operate four times weekly for both the winter and summer schedules. Today, we are also celebrating one year of low fares at Glasgow Airport to top European destinations such as Carcassonne, Riga and Warsaw.

"Scottish consumers and visitors can look forward to further improvements in the coming months, including our ground breaking personalised website, with exciting new digital features such as ‘hold the fare’ and real customer destination reviews, and improved menus, new cabin crew uniforms and new cabin interiors on board, with more to come in Year 3, as we continue to offer so much more than just lowest fares."

Francois Bourienne, C
ommercial Director, Glasgow Airport, said: “It is a real pleasure to be celebrating Ryanair’s first anniversary at Glasgow Airport. The airline has gone from strength-to-strength over the past 12 months, and the fact it started with seven routes and has grown to 10, adding additional capacity on a number of its services, demonstrates the airline’s ambitious plans for growth.

"Ryanair’s first service to Berlin is already proving incredibly popular with customers. The German capital offers the perfect city break destination as it is full of historical, cultural and culinary opportunities for leisure travellers. The fact that the city’s restaurants boast 19 Michelin stars among them makes Berlin officially one of the best places to eat on the planet.

"We are looking forward to continuing to work closely with the team at Ryanair to ensure it enjoys many more years of success and growth at Glasgow Airport."

Already Scotland's gateway to the world and the nation's fastest growing airport, Glasgow Airport has enjoyed huge success in recent times establishing itself as one of Europe's fastest growing airports with new flights taking-off to 42 exciting destinations including Barbados, Budapest, Halifax, Las Vegas, Marrakech, Milan, Montréal, Prague and Vilnius - offering passengers over 1 million additional seats.
