Glasgow Airport has welcomed the launch of its latest new route as Thomson Airways commence direct flights between Scotland's largest city and Dubai.

The inaugural flight departed from Glasgow Airport on 16 January 2017 with flights now operating every Monday for the winter season. The new route is primarily being aimed at cruise passengers with Dubai being the new home for the Thomson Celebration cruise ship. Thomson Airways flights from Glasgow to Dubai operate into the city’s Al Maktoum Airport commonly referred to as Dubai World Central using a Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.

Once a cosy fishing village, Dubai has flourished into the pearl of the Middle East. It offers an unimaginable sight of the world’s tallest building Burj Khalifa and the miraculous 8th Wonder of the World – Palm Jumeirah. Have a look inside the largest shopping mall on earth with 1200 shops or dine in fine restaurants whilst enjoying spectacular sunset. Discovering soft sand beaches, visiting exclusive nightclubs, and skiing inside the magnificent indoor ski slope are a few of the many amazing activities that Dubai has to offer. For an unforgettable time, visit Dubai, where historic Arabic culture, modern skyscrapers, exotic markets and beautiful beaches become the crossroads for an unbeatable holiday.

The new route between Glasgow and Dubai further cements Glasgow Airport’s position as Scotland's longhaul gateway with direct flights to 21 far-and-away destinations including Cape Verde, Cuba, Dubai, Jamaica, Las Vegas, New York and Seoul. Glasgow Airports multi-award winning customer service, no drop-off charge, unrivalled choice of worldwide destinations and its central location with direct motorway access ensures the airport is the preferred choice for travellers from across Scotland including those in Ayrshire, Edinburgh, Stirling, Perth, Dundee, Aberdeen and beyond.

The popular Glasgow to Dubai route is already Scotland’s busiest long haul air route and Thomson Airways will compete head-to-head with Emirates’ twice-daily service to the Gulf hub. Direct flights to Dubai are not available from any other Scottish airport.

Helen Caron, Managing Director, Thomson Cruise, said: “We know that destinations are one of the key deciding factors for our customers and our decision to set sail from Dubai will allow holiday-makers to see and experience more destinations than ever before.

“As Dubai becomes more and more popular for winter sun and incredible excursions, we know our customers will be as excited as we are to welcome this destination to our programme. With the average Brit visiting more than 14 foreign countries in their lifetime, we can’t wait for everyone to discover Arabia, from the glamour and opulence of Dubai and Abu Dhabi to the ancient heritage sites in Oman.”

Already Scotland's gateway to the world and the nation's fastest growing airport, Glasgow Airport has enjoyed huge success in recent times establishing itself as one of Europe's fastest growing airports with new flights taking-off to over 20 exciting destinations including Brussels, Cape Verde, Dubrovnik, Jamaica, Lisbon, Munich, New York JFK and Valencia - offering passengers over 1 million additional seats.

Thomson Airways flights from Glasgow to 38 worldwide destinations including Cancun, Cape Verde, Dubai, Dubrovnik, Jamaica, Naples, Orlando and Paphos can be booked now through Air Glasgow ensuring you get the cheapest flights every time you book.
