|Glasgow Airport has secured a further two new routes for 2017 with the announcement that Ryanair is to launch direct flights from Glasgow and Krakow and Madrid.|
From October 2017 Ryanair will offer two weekly flights direct from Glasgow Airport to Krakow and four weekly flights to the Spanish capital, Madrid. The new routes between Scotland's largest city and Krakow and Madrid are expected to prove popular with thousands of Polish and Spanish tourists using the services to visit Glasgow and other major tourist draws in Western Scotland including Argyll & Bute, Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park and many of the country’s top whisky distilleries and golf courses.
The new services are expected to prove equality popular with Scottish passengers looking to discover Krakow and Madrid. Krakow is recognised as Poland's second city and the tourist capital. It has everything that you want in an historic European city - a beautiful old town and main square, with sophisticated cafes for people watching, unique and eccentric bars, museums and galleries. Krakow's old fashioned charm is what really sets it apart from other cities in Poland. To feel like you've stepped back in time, look out for the guard in the tower on the central square who blows a trumpet every hour on the hour to let the people of the city know all is well.
Madrid is a capital that truly feels alive. Streets that buzz with energy, restaurants filled with poetic chatter and an infectious city-wide atmosphere. Madrid is a wonderful city that truly inspires a casual stroll around the green areas. People are happy and there are impressive buildings, lush parks and picturesque streets in abundance. Culture is ever present here and you don't have to be a history buff to appreciate the architecture and reminders of history.
The new routes from Glasgow and Krakow and Madrid further cements Glasgow Airport’s position as Scotland's gateway to both Poland and Spain with direct flights to 9 Polish cities including Gdansk, Krakow and Warsaw, and 16 Spanish destinations including Barcelona, Madrid and Valencia. Glasgow Airports multi-award winning customer service, unrivalled choice of worldwide destinations and its central location with direct motorway access ensures the airport is the preferred choice for travellers from across Scotland including those in Ayrshire, Edinburgh, Stirling, Perth, Dundee, Aberdeen and beyond.
Amanda McMillan, Managing Director, Glasgow Airport, said: “This is extremely welcome news from Ryanair which has continued to respond to demand since the launch of its Glasgow base in 2014.
“Madrid and Krakow are two of Europe’s most popular city-break destinations and both routes have huge potential to generate significant in-bound tourism for Glasgow and Scotland.
“Madrid and Glasgow enjoy strong economic ties with companies such as Santander, Gamesa and Scottish Power all having headquarters in Glasgow so there will undoubtedly be strong demand for this service from within the business community. “The introduction of Krakow brings the total number of Polish routes available from Glasgow to nine.
“As one of the oldest cities in Poland, it is often described as the country’s cultural capital so it will no doubt prove a huge draw for leisure travellers.”
Robin Kiely, Head of Communications, Ryanair, said: “Scottish customers and visitors can look forward to even lower fares when they make advance bookings for their summer or winter holidays, so there’s never been a better time to book a low fare flight to or from Glasgow.
