Ryanair announce new direct flights from Glasgow to Frankfurt
01 March 2017

Glasgow Airport has secures its 28th new route for 2017 with the announcement that Ryanair is to launch direct flights between Glasgow and Frankfurt.

From October 2017 Ryanair will offer daily flights direct from Glasgow Airport to Frankfurt. The new route between Scotland's largest city and Frankfurt is expected to prove popular thousands of German tourists using the service to visit Glasgow and other major tourist draws in Western Scotland including Argyll & Bute, Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park and many of the country’s top whisky distilleries and golf courses.

Flights to Frankfurt are expected to prove equally as popular among Scottish based passengers. Frankfurt, the bustling metropolis in the heart of Europe, is known for its unusual contrasts. Historical attractions, as the Roemerberg with its half-timbered houses, the Emperors' Cathedral or St Paul's Church, are just a stone's throw away from the unique skyline, extraordinary cultural offers, a real shopping eldorado and numerous events throughout the year – Frankfurt is the perfect destination for an exciting city break.

The new route between Glasgow and Frankfurt further cements Glasgow Airport’s position as Scotland's gateway to Germany with direct flights to Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Munich and twice-daily flights to Berlin. Glasgow Airports multi-award winning customer service, unrivalled choice of worldwide destinations and its central location with direct motorway access ensures the airport is the preferred choice for travellers from across Scotland including those in Ayrshire, Edinburgh, Stirling, Perth, Dundee, Aberdeen and beyond.

Robin Kiely, Head of Communications, Ryanair, said: “We are pleased to announce a new route from Glasgow to Frankfurt am Main, our third new Glasgow winter 2017 route following Krakow and Madrid, with a daily service starting in October. Scottish customers and visitors can look forward to even lower fares when they make advance bookings for their summer or winter holidays, so there’s never been a better time to book a low fare flight with Ryanair.”

Amanda McMillan, Managing Director, Glasgow Airport, said: “The introduction of Ryanair’s direct service to Frankfurt is a first for Glasgow Airport and great news for our passengers.

“This daily service will link two cities with much in common and further strengthen our European connectivity. Frankfurt is one of the world's leading financial hubs and home to the European Central Bank, while Glasgow is Scotland’s economic powerhouse.

“Like Glasgow, Frankfurt is also a fantastic city break destination boasting more than 30 museums, a thriving night-time economy and central pedestrian shopping area, stunning botanic gardens and a diverse range of festivals.

“Ryanair has continually responded to growing demand at Glasgow Airport by adding new routes. Earlier this month, the airline unveiled plans for twice-weekly services to Krakow and a four-weekly service to Madrid, which will also launch in October.

“Today’s announcement is yet more welcome news and will bring the total number of routes operated by Ryanair from Glasgow to 23.”

Already Scotland's gateway to the world and the nation's fastest growing airport, Glasgow Airport has enjoyed huge success in recent times establishing itself as one of Europe's fastest growing airports with new flights taking-off to over 20 exciting destinations including Brussels, Cape Verde, Dubrovnik, Jamaica, Krakow, Lisbon, Madrid, New York JFK and Valencia - offering passengers over 1 million additional seats.
