Blue Air announce new direct flights from Glasgow to Iași
10 March 2017

Glasgow Airport has secures its 28th new route for 2017 with the announcement that Blue Air is to launch direct flights between Glasgow and Iași.

From 15 June 2017 Blue Air will offer two weekly flights direct from Glasgow Airport to Iași with flights operating every Tuesday and Saturday. The new route between Scotland's largest city and Iași is expected to prove popular with Glasgow’s large Romanian population and the new service will compliment the airlines existing thrice-weekly service to Bucharest.

Flights to Iași are expected to prove equally as popular among Scottish based passengers. Exuberant, cultured Iaşi (pronounced ‘yash’) clearly enjoys being the biggest city in Moldavia. Once dubbed the ‘city of the hundred churches’, Iaşi is indeed bursting with centuries of architectural creations. Yet besides the monasteries, theatres and other historic buildings, this eclectic place has botanical parks, big squares and (for better or for worse) both communist-era concrete structures and gleaming modern shopping malls. As with its shopping scene, Iaşi’s innumerable eateries, drinking holes and lively clubs depend on the robust university population. You'll find students from all over the world here – making this little corner of Romania unexpectedly cosmopolitan.

The new route between Glasgow and Iași further cements Glasgow Airport’s position as Scotland's gateway to Romania with seven weekly direct flights to Bucharest and Iași. Glasgow Airports multi-award winning customer service, unrivalled choice of worldwide destinations and its central location with direct motorway access ensures the airport is the preferred choice for travellers from across Scotland including those in Ayrshire, Edinburgh, Stirling, Perth, Dundee, Aberdeen and beyond. Direct flights to Romania are not available from any other Scottish airport.

An Iași Airport spokesperson said: “By introducing new routes the airport generates new bridges to the world. The link to Glasgow is popular for university and cultural environment and, not least, is good for tourism and ethnic traffic. Many of our fellow citizens work in Glasgow. We are optimistic that this route will be a successful product, considering the demands of growing lately.”

Already Scotland's gateway to the world and the nation's fastest growing airport, Glasgow Airport has enjoyed huge success in recent times establishing itself as one of Europe's fastest growing airports with new flights taking-off to over 20 exciting destinations including Brussels, Cape Verde, Dubrovnik, Jamaica, Krakow, Lisbon, Madrid, New York JFK and Valencia - offering passengers over 1 million additional seats.
