Glasgow Airport has welcomed the launch of three new routes as Ryanair commence direct flights from Glasgow to Lisbon, Palanga and Valencia.

The inaugural flights departed from Glasgow Airport on 26 March 2017 with direct flights to Lisbon and Palanga now operating every Thursday and Sunday while direct flights to Valencia are available every Monday and Friday.

The new route between Scotland's largest city and Palanga is already proving popular with Glasgow’s large Lithuanian population while flights from Lisbon and Valencia are proving popular with thousands of tourists using the service to visit Glasgow and other major tourist draws in Western Scotland including Argyll & Bute, Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park and many of the country’s top whisky distilleries and golf courses.

The new services are proving equally popular with Scottish travellers.

Lisbon basks in the sun reflecting off the Tejo River and quickly seduces most visitors. The mixture of history and modernity, of small town and metropolis, of the antiquated and the shining new is irresistible. Add excellent shopping, great night life and superb restaurants with Europe’s best fish, and you have Lisbon in a nutshell.

Palanga is a seaside resort with a split personality – peaceful pensioner paradise in winter, pounding party spot in summer. Tourists from all over Lithuania and abroad come for its idyllic 10km sandy beach backed by sand dunes and scented pines. Despite the crowds and encroaching neon, Palanga is not without charm, with wooden houses and the ting-a-ling of bicycle bells and pedal-powered taxis in the air.

Despite its size as Spain’s third largest city, Valencia is quite unknown and one of Spain’s hidden gems. It is a multifaceted place, mixing Gothic architecture with the rough old fishermen’s quarter of El Cabanyal. Here you can also find fusion restaurants, futuristic museums and two long beaches, Las Arenas and La Malvarrosa.

Direct flights to Palanga and Valencia are not available from any other Scottish airport.

The new routes between Glasgow and Lisbon, Palanga and Valencia further cements Glasgow Airport’s position as Scotland's gateway to the world with direct flights to over 130 worldwide destinations including Barcelona, Dubai, Las vegas, Milan, New York, Paris and Rome. Glasgow Airports multi-award winning customer service, unrivalled choice of worldwide destinations and its central location with direct motorway access ensures the airport is the preferred choice for travellers from across Scotland including those in Ayrshire, Edinburgh, Stirling, Perth, Dundee, Aberdeen and beyond.

Michael O’Leary, Chief Executive, Ryanair, said “We are pleased to launch our biggest ever Glasgow Summer 2017 schedule, which includes 10 new routes from Glasgow including Brussels, Lisbon, Palanga, Valencia and Zadar which will deliver 2 million customers p.a. and support 1,500 jobs at Glasgow Airport.”

Already Scotland's gateway to the world and the nation's fastest growing airport, Glasgow Airport has enjoyed huge success in recent times establishing itself as one of Europe's fastest growing airports with new flights taking-off to over 20 exciting destinations including Brussels, Cape Verde, Dubrovnik, Frankfurt, Jamaica, Krakow, Lisbon, Madrid, New York JFK and Valencia - offering passengers over 1 million additional seats.
