31 October 2017
Glasgow Airport has welcomed the launch of its latest new route as Lufthansa commence direct flights between Scotland's largest city and Munich.
The inaugural flight departed from Glasgow Airport on 30 October 2017 with flights now operating every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
The new route between Scotland's largest city and Munich is already proving popular with Germany tourists using the service to visit Glasgow and discover Scotland's cultural capital boasting incredible architecture steeped in history, world-renowned shopping, crowded pubs and clubs and terrific restaurants, and other major tourist draws throughout Western Scotland including Argyll & Bute, Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park and many of the country’s top whisky distilleries and golf courses.
Flights between Glasgow and Munich are proving equally popular with Scottish travellers.
Munich is arguably the jewel in Germany’s crown and is one of its most popular tourist destinations as well as being one of its most sophisticated cultural centres. On the one side, it’s a city full of lofty works of art, stunning architecture and historical buildings, opera, theatre and more. While, on the other, it’s a city full of warmth and openness, with just a touch of that German fairytale village feeling.
The city’s motto is ‘München mag Dich’, or ‘Munich Likes You’, and it certainly does. You’ll stroll from museum to cathedral down adorable lanes and pass gingerbread-like half-timbered houses on the way. It’s the perfect mix. Add to that a strong contingent of trendy art-cafes full of life and conversation and, of course, plenty of beer gardens with perfect pilsners and a lively German gusto that has remained unchanged for years.
From Munich passengers can connect seamlessly with onward Lufthansa flights to over 100 worldwide destinations including Athens, Buenos Aires, Helsinki, Istanbul, Shanghai and Singapore. Passengers connecting in Munich with Lufthansa benefit from checking-in at Glasgow Airport with their bags being checked through to their final destination and when checking-in at Glasgow, passengers will receive boarding passes for their flight to Munich and those for the onward connecting flight, giving passengers a seamless and hassle-free connection.
The new route between Glasgow and Munich further cements Glasgow Airport’s position as Scotland's gateway to Germany with direct flights to Dusseldorf and Munich and twice-daily flights direct to Berlin and Frankfurt. Glasgow Airports multi-award winning customer service, unrivalled choice of worldwide destinations and its central location with direct motorway access ensures the airport is the preferred choice for travellers from across Scotland including those in Ayrshire, Edinburgh, Stirling, Perth, Dundee, Aberdeen and beyond.
Glasgow Airport is Lufthansa's primary Scottish departure point and the airline serves more German destinations from Scotland's largest city than any other.

In addition to making it easier for tourists from one of our biggest international markets to visit Glasgow, the expansion of this route will play an important role in strengthening Scotland’s connectivity by providing passengers with access to major markets worldwide through Lufthansa’s Munich hub.”
Susan Aitken, Leader, Glasgow City Council, said: “This announcement by Lufthansa to operate a year-round service from Munich to Glasgow is fantastic news. Germany is a hugely important international tourist market for Glasgow contributing around £16 million to the city’s economy each year. This increased connectivity with Lufthansa through the key hub of Munich will allow us to further grow leisure and business tourism to Glasgow while also strengthening the city’s status as the gateway to Scotland.”
